What is Teeth Whitening - Everything You Should Know
What is teeth whitening? What do you need to know before you consider which option is for you? Having a smile
that is yellowed and faded is no fun. You smile and you feel self conscious, wondering what everyone is thinking
about your teeth. That is no way to live. You want to be able to make a great first impression every time you give
someone a big smile.
This is where teeth whitening comes into play. With teeth whitening you can work to life those stains off your
teeth, getting teeth that are several shades lighter than they are now. Doing this can improve the brightness of
your teeth, helping your smile look radiant each time you flash those pearly whites.
Although stained and yellowed teeth definitely pose quite a problem, don't be discouraged! There are many
whitening options out there that can provide a solution to this problem. However, sometimes finding the product
that will really do this job can be the difficult part.
If you are like me, you may have already tried many different products to whiten your teeth. Perhaps you have
tried toothpastes, bleaches, and gels, all with no effect. Well, don't give up now. It is time to keep trying
because as frustrated as you feel right now, there is a product out there that is going to work for you.
Products that are Available
When you are looking for the answer to what teeth whitening is all about, you will actually find that there are
so many different products out there. The problem is that it can get confusing to choose from. Here is a look at
several options available.
- Strips and Gels - One of the options for teeth whitening is strips and gels. Strips are quite thin and they
have a special gel on them. You apply them a couple times a day to help whiten teeth. The gels are usually peroxide
based and you simply brush them on your teeth twice each day for two weeks.
- Toothpastes and Rinses - Toothpastes and rinses are some of the least effective options. Toothpastes usually
rely on eliminating surface stains and rinses are not much more than mouthwash. These options may whiten teeth a
bit, but it can take a long time and the results are not very good for most people. The only bonus is the
price.
- Whitening Trays - Whitening trays are a popular method of teeth whitening, and they require special trays that
fit around the teeth. A bleaching gel is put into the trays and trays are put into the mouth for a couple hours or
even through the night to help whiten teeth. The problem with this option is that it can be expensive,
uncomfortable, and can cause tooth sensitivity.
- Whitening Pens - Whitening pens happen to be one of the newer options for whitening your teeth. They contain
whitening bleaches and because they function as a pen, they are quick and easy to put onto teeth.
- Office Whitening - Office whitening is bleaching that is done in office by a dentist. Many people do get
excellent results with these treatments; however, the expensive is a big drawback.
Do The Effects Last?
One question you may have when it comes to teeth whitening is how long the effects are going to last. Well, in
many cases, this is not something that is going to last for years. In fact, many teeth whitening options only last
for a few months. When you are looking for something to give you a better smile, you will want a product that will
not only work, but one that will provide long lasting results.
Possible Side Effects
It is important that you know that there can be some side effects that can occur when you go about whitening
your teeth, especially with some of the harsher options. Irritation to the tissues in your mouth can occur, and
another side effect can be tooth sensitivity. Often bleaching agents can cause this sensitivity to occur.
Now that you know a little more about teeth whitening, maybe you are ready to start searching for a product
again. Sure, you may not have had results with the previous products you used, but remember, everyone is different.
Different products work for different people. As I have found, there is a product out there for everyone that can
give you that beautiful smile that you want.
